Stellantis Kokomo: 60 years at the forefront of aluminum die casting

Over the past six decades, the plant has set standards in operational excellence, technological innovation, and close ties to the Kokomo community. To mark the anniversary, KCP opened its doors to nearly 2,300 employees, retirees, and their families. Kokomo Mayor Tyler Moore also attended the celebration.

A day for the people behind the success

Guests were able to tour the production facilities that make the plant the largest die casting site in the world. Exhibitions showcased numerous aluminum components that are essential to Stellantis engines, transmissions, and powertrain systems. In addition, the family day offered a colorful program with games, live music, a photo booth, and a commemorative plaque for guests to sign.

“This day is dedicated to the employees of KCP,” emphasized Jeremy Agnew, Vice President and Plant Manager. “Their skills, dedication, and pride have made the plant synonymous with excellence over the past 60 years. They have made a decisive contribution to the further development of Stellantis' manufacturing capabilities and competitiveness in a changing industry.”

Backbone of North American manufacturing

Since opening in 1965, KCP has been a cornerstone of North American manufacturing. Millions of aluminum castings have been produced here over six decades – essential structural components for a wide range of vehicle models. Today, the plant employs over 900 highly skilled employees, organized in UAW Local 1166. It is the only die-casting plant in the global Stellantis network that supplies components for both engines and transmissions.

Currently, 46 different types of castings are manufactured – from classic combustion engines to components for next-generation electrified powertrains.

Significance for the city of Kokomo

Mayor Tyler Moore praised the plant's role: “On behalf of a grateful community, I celebrate this anniversary and thank Stellantis for its ongoing commitment. The Kokomo Casting Plant has shaped the prosperity, innovation, and identity of our city for decades.”
