The German Aluminum Industry Association will represent its interests independently in Berlin in the future and significantly expand its presence in the federal capital. This repositioning is accompanied by a change at the top of the association: Angelika El-Noshokaty will replace the current managing director, Marius Baader, on September 1, 2025. Aluminium Deutschland is the voice of the German aluminum industry and represents the interests of around 150 companies with more than 61,000 employees and an annual turnover of almost €25 billion. After iron and steel, aluminum is the most widely used metal worldwide.

“Aluminum is a key material for economic transformation in Germany and Europe,” says Aluminium Deutschland President Rob van Gils. “Nevertheless, our industry is facing unprecedented political challenges. It was therefore imperative that we represent the interests of the material and its companies directly and independently in Berlin in the future.” The focus will be on key areas such as raw materials and circular economy policy, energy, environmental and sustainability policy, as well as trade and European policy.

New headquarters in Berlin

The fundamental strategic repositioning of Aluminium Deutschland, which was decided by its member companies, also includes the relocation of the association's headquarters from Düsseldorf to Berlin. Until now, the association had delegated part of its lobbying activities to the German Metal Industry Association, which it will leave at the end of 2025. Rob van Gils comments: “After more than a year of intensive discussion among our members, it became clear that it has become essential for the German aluminum industry to focus on its own material, with its own strong voice in Berlin and Brussels.”

The new start also brings with it personnel changes. Marius Baader, managing director of Aluminium Deutschland since 2019, is leaving the association at his own request to pursue new professional challenges. His successor, Angelika El-Noshokaty, will be the association's chief executive from September 1, 2025. She has 15 years of experience in political advocacy. After working in the German Bundestag and in political strategy consulting for industrial companies, she was most recently responsible for German lobbying in Berlin at Novelis, a leading manufacturer of flat-rolled aluminum products and the world's largest aluminum recycler. In addition to her knowledge of the political scene in Berlin and Brussels, El-Noshokaty also has extensive experience in political communication and campaign design and is familiar with the challenges facing the aluminum industry thanks to her most recent professional position.

Rob van Gils emphasizes: "With Angelika El-Noshokaty, Aluminium Deutschland has gained an intimate connoisseur of both the Berlin political scene and our material as its chief executive. She has all the prerequisites to successfully lead our association's business in the upcoming transformation and beyond. At the same time, van Gils praises the work of her predecessor: “Marius Baader modernized and continuously developed the association during his tenure. I would like to thank him for this on behalf of our member companies.”

About Aluminium Deutschland

Aluminium Deutschland e.V. was founded in 1992 and represents the interests of its approximately 150 members in Germany along the entire aluminum value chain. Its member companies include leading producers of primary aluminum, downstream manufacturers of extruded, rolled, and cast products, aluminum recyclers, and manufacturers of tubes, cans, and packaging materials. In its previous activities, the association focused primarily on the technical aspects of representing interests and communicating about materials. Aluminium Deutschland regularly organizes specialist seminars on material application issues and is the conceptual sponsor of the world's leading trade fair and B2B platform for the aluminum industry and its main user industries.

About aluminum as a material

Thanks to its unique properties, aluminum is considered the material of the 21st century and a key material for decarbonization, resource conservation, and the energy transition. The most important sales markets are the automotive, aerospace, construction, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, air conditioning, solar technology, and packaging industries. There is hardly any area of daily life or technology that does not use aluminum. It is no coincidence that the European Union has classified aluminum as a “critical raw material” and NATO as a “defense-critical metal,” as its industrial base is essential for Europe's strategic, geopolitical, and security independence.

Aluminum is a unique strategic raw material and an enabler of green transformation. It is used wherever weight reduction, protective function, stability, and corrosion resistance are crucial. Its durability and endless recyclability without loss make it a prime example of the circular economy. Recycling aluminum saves 80% of emissions and 95% of energy compared to primary production.
