Gas injection in aluminum die casting: MAGIT brings proven technology to series production

Gas injection technology is not a new concept – the first patent was filed back in 1939. But it is only now that MAGIT has achieved a breakthrough in aluminum die casting.

The company has worked with customers to bring the method to series production. MAGIT is not just the name of the company, but also stands for an innovative process that enables new applications such as housings for power electronics with integrated cooling channels and other hollow structures in magnesium and aluminum die casting. The advantage: components that previously consisted of several components can now be produced in a single casting – eliminating the need for additional tools or welding processes.

Gas injection opens up new perspectives in die casting – both technically and economically. The main areas of application include the cost-efficient production of complex cooling structures, media-carrying channels, and the implementation of lighter components with greater design freedom. Typical applications can be found in housings for power electronics, components for e-mobility, and sophisticated design components.

The advantages lie in the integration of functions: Seals and screw connections are no longer necessary, and component management is simplified. In addition, single-part solutions with integrated channels and deflections can be realized – which not only reduces investment costs but also significantly streamlines assembly production.

White paper: Focus on gas injection presented at the VDI symposium "Casting Technology in Drive Systems"

The white paper includes the presentation "Manufacturing media-carrying channels for power electronics housings directly in the die casting process with relevance to heat exchange" by Marcel Op de Laak, Managing Director of TiK-Technologie im Kunststoff GmbH, and Franz Krall, Head of MAGIT Sales & Technology. This was presented at the VDI symposium "Casting Technology in Drive Systems."

The guide not only provides practical application examples, but also highlights the technical opportunities and challenges of gas injection in die casting.
